JAMES MARSHALL

PROFESSIONAL RUGBY PLAYER | HURRICANES | ALL BLACK 7'S

TOPICS WE COVER:

  • How James overcame self-doubt and pursued his dream of playing professional rugby
  • How James built his self-confidence and overcame self-doubt
  • Winning the super rugby title and playing 50 caps for his favourite team
  • Overcoming adversity, bouncing back from injury, and the importance of chasing your childhood dream

In this episode, I sit down with professional rugby player, former All Black 7's representative, and current Wellington Hurricane, James Marshall. This is a really cool conversation for me because James and I were friends at High School where we played college rugby together.

His dream was always to play professional rugby and go as far as he could in the sport. To sit down with James 10 years down the track and reflect on his career and the experiences he has had playing here in New Zealand and abroad was pretty special.

We chat about dealing with pressure, team culture, self-confidence, overcoming setbacks, and what it takes to make it in professional sport. We also chat about some of the most influential players James has played alongside and what it was like winning the Super Rugby title for the first time in the club's history.

It was great to connect with Jimmy and talk about his learnings playing professional rugby, getting contracted to his favourite team the Hurricanes, and achieving his childhood dream of playing rugby for a career.

You can follow James on Instagram @jimimar and you can check out his new podcast the 'What A Lad' podcast, where James connects with some of the best lads he has met through his playing career to show what they are like off the footy field and to chat life and professional sport.
